THAI YOGA MASSAGE
Relaxing, nurturing treatments - for women only
Please note I am not currently taking on new clients
I offer beautifully relaxing, nurturing Thai yoga massage treatments (with a little Hawaiian flavour) for women.
I have been a professional Thai therapist since 2015, trained in the gentler northern Thai style, sharing it as a wonderful, relaxing complement to a yoga practice & other physical activities: it's like having yoga done to you. People generally come away from my treatments feeling they have had a beautiful experience of nurturing & release, feeling light, energised and deeply relaxed.
Traditional Thai Massage combines yoga posture-inspired stretches and joint-manipulation with oriental-style acupressure using palming and thumbing along energy lines (sen lines) and acupressure points to balance subtle energy (lom/prana). Like yoga, Thai massage uses breathing and stretches to release energy blockages and help to unwind our habitual, unbalanced posture patterns in the body, and release both physical and emotional tension. Thai massage's Buddhist origins bring a compassionate, spiritual dimension to this form of bodywork, a beautiful energetic exchange shared in a spirit of metta - loving-kindness.
My treatments are more nurturing experience than you might have experienced in Thailand! Although I did my main training there in the traditional northern style, I work more slowly & responsively with the body, to allow it time to release and relax more. I am also very inspired by traditional Hawaiian lomilomi massage and in 2015 received one-to-one training in basic lomilomi techniques whilst on the Hawaiian island of Maui so I like to sometimes incorporate this as well. (I am very keen to deepen my lomilomi knowledge in the future!)
WHAT TO EXPECT IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TREATMENT
Thai massage treatments are performed fully clothed (simply wear loose, comfortable clothing such as what you would wear for a yoga class) on a futon on the floor. You will be mostly lying on your back or on your side; sometimes on your belly too, and perhaps even sitting upright for a bit, depending on what is needed for your treatment. (If I include some lomilomi this will involve coconut oil on bare skin so I tend to just work on the back for this, while the recipient lies prone: modesty is preserved throughout.)
Deep breathing & relaxation are the key to receiving the full benefits of Thai massage. Treatments are practiced as a meditative flow, so I like to work with gentle, non-distracting music in the background, to enhance the rhythm, flow and energy of the treatment - I find it really helps the quality of my work. (However, I find too much talking breaks the flow so don't be offended if I don't converse much with you during the treatment!) As the recipient, all you need do is lie back and breathe, surrender to the experience, and enjoy the healing journey, transporting you to a place of deep relaxation and bliss.
BOOKING A TREATMENT:
I am based in Totnes. To book a treatment contact me here.
Please wear loose/comfortable clothing for your treatment, as you would for a yoga class.
IMPORTANT: Please note I only work with female clients, and am not currently taking on any new clients. Thai bodywork is very strenuous for the practitioner, and also involves an energetic exchange as it is quite physically intimate although it is fully clothed. For these reasons, I have to be selective about who I work with, as it's important for the practitioner to nurture themselves as well as their clients!
Thank you for your understanding :)
1hr session: £40

CANCELLATION POLICY: Please note: if you cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours' notice you will still need to pay for the session. Advance payment is much appreciated, to confirm your booking 48hrs before the session. Thank you for respecting this!
MY BACKGROUND IN THAI MASSAGE
I am trained in the northern style of traditional Thai massage (which is gentler than the southern style taught in Wat Pho, Bangkok). After some basic training in Devon in 2013-14 (with Emma Cayliss), I travelled to Thailand for my main training in 2014 with Chatchai Jamu of the Sunshine Network, in Huai Naam Rin, a Lahu Hill Tribe village in the far north of Thailand. (This school was founded by Ashokananda, Chatchoi's father.) & began working as a professional Thai massage therapist in early 2015. I returned to Thailand in the winter of 2016-17 offering Thai massage treatments as well as teaching yoga at a retreat centre in southern Thailand, working with western and Thai clients. I did my Advanced training in Portugal with Hadadi School of Thai massage in 2017.
"I am a Holistic Therapist myself, I have received many Thai Yoga Massage treatments from different therapists in the past. Since I found Tania, I have been going to her for 3 years now. She is warm, caring & professional. The quality of her bodywork is coming from a very pure place, her loving kindness. I always feel nurtured, energized & joyful after my massage. I would absolutely recommend Tania to everyone."

"...I want to give feedback about how much better I have been. My nerve pain in my right arm has really reduced and my shoulders have really dropped. I think my pecs were doing a lot of holding after many years of being in that position, despite injections. I'm finding it easier to activate the right muscles...I literally feel 50% better!"
